A new poll from March 21-27 by the Pew Research Center found that only 7 percent of U.S. adults have an overall positive view of Russia. Only 6 percent expressed confidence in their leader, President Vladimir Putin. On the other hand, 72% trust Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

A Levada poll released in February 2020 found that 80 percent of Russian respondents believed that Russia and the West should be friends and partners. However, only 42 percent of Russians surveyed said they had a positive view of the United States. Only 18 percent of Americans surveyed by the Pew Research Center said they had a positive view of Russia. According to the Pew Research Center, "57% of Russians aged 18-29 have a positive view of the United States, compared to only 15% of Russians 50 and older." In 2019, only 20% of Russians have a positive image of US President Donald Trump. Only 14 percent of Russians said they fully support Donald Trump's policies.

The center conducts polls and research in the fields of sociology, economics, psychology and marketing. Seventy-eight percent of Russians surveyed said the U.S. interfered "severely" or "significantly" in Russian politics, while 69 percent of Americans said the same about Russia's interference in U.S. politics. ... According to the poll, 31 percent of Russians say Moscow is trying to have a significant impact on U.S. domestic policy, while 55 percent of Americans believe their own government is trying to do the same in Russia. ...Only 31% of Americans say they have a positive view of Russia, compared to 24% of Russians who have a positive view of the United States. ... 81% of Russians believe the US is working to weaken Russia on the world stage; 77% of Americans say the same about Russia.

Americans hardly see Russia, although they are clearly reluctant to be more involved in the conflict. The poll found that 53 percent said they were very or very concerned about Russia's global influence posing a threat to the U.S., up from 45 percent in August 2021.

Because most Americans see Russia as an enemy, the percentage who see Russia as a threat to the United States is now higher than at any time since the center first began polling on the subject in 2008. Overall, 64% of Americans see Russia's power and influence as a major threat to their country, 30% see it as a minor threat, and only 5% see Russia as no threat.
