There are many opinions on the death penalty, and as some other polls say, but not ours, approximately 44% of Americans still oppose the death penalty.
But there is also another side to the situation. It is well known that prisons in America are overcrowded, and the further it goes, the harder it becomes to sentence someone to life imprisonment or even to give any prison sentence at all. Many people may avoid real punishment, or may not receive any prison time, even in serious cases.
As I have heard - and this is only my personal opinion - there may be internal pressure or informal instructions for judges in America not to give long prison sentences, or sometimes not to give prison time at all, because the prisons are already overcrowded.
That is why I am interested in hearing different opinions about death penalty in America. How do you feel about it? Should it be restored or not? And what should be done with overcrowded prisons?
